In My Beach Bag
Is there anything better than a day at the beach?
My ideal summer day is in Maine spending the morning on the beach. With a new magazine or novel, I can sit there happily for a few hours. Right now I am reading Sweetbitter a novel by Stephanie Danler. The book follows Tess, a young girl who just moved to New York for the first time after college. The reader follows Tess as she gets a job as a backwaiter at a elite downtown restaurant; as Tess learns the ropes of the restaurant, she also learns the ropes of her new life and falls in love....And that is how far I have gotten in the book so far, as I am half way through the novel. I will report back as I finish the book, but so far I have enjoyed the book. A quick and fun beach read for sure!
This weekend I also had the latest issue of Domino Magazine with me at the beach. The summer issue has been out for a few weeks but with all the craziness of graduation and being home in Maine I have not been able to sit down and read through the whole magazine. And let me tell you, it is a wonderful issue! Of course a pair of sunglasses are necessary for the beach, but over the weekend I also had my new Lola Hat. There is nothing better than a straw hat in the summer, and my recent favorites are from Lola Hats. While I love a good tan as much as you probably do, more and more recently I am getting more anxious about sun exposure. We have all read countless articles about the dangers of sun exposure and skin cancer. Right now my favorite sunscreen is from Elta MD. It is dermatologist recommended and great if you have sensitive or oil prone skin. I am always fighting off stray breakouts and this sunscreen is ideal because it does not make your skin oily. This summer I am keeping track of all my items for a day at the beach in my new beach bag from Annie Selke. This green and white woven tote is perfect for the beach as it is sturdy and the perfect size for all my beach essentials, from my beach towel to my BKR water bottle. The perfect tote to bring to the beach in the morning and the farmers market that afternoon.
So what about you, what is in your beach bag this summer? Any great books that I should add to my reading list or a favorite sunscreen?
